Grounding Challenge: Day 2

Updated: Nov 5, 2022

Last night, I finished my day with no screen time after 8pm and journaling. The no screen time for me, means not looking at my phone since we don't have a tv. I thought this was going to be easy, but there are so many reasons to look at your phone even unconsciously, that this was by far the most difficult of the pillars.

It was after 8pm and I reached for my phone to use as a flashlight, to check the time, to see if my alarm was set for the next day, or to respond to a text. You may not count this as “screen time”, but It is important to be aware of your relationship and dependency on your phone and how much you use it,not just scrolling through social media or browsing the internet, but for the little things as well. Tonight, I will put my phone in a cupboard at 8pm and wait until tomorrow to reach for it.

As far as the rest of the day goes, I was able to stick to my schedule and I felt much more centered and grounded than yesterday. I also ate a larger breakfast which helped me feel less hungry between breakfast and lunch.

Tomorrow is Saturday, a day when I would usually sleep in, but instead I am choosing healthy habits by waking up at the same time each day. Experts have proven that this simple routine has profound health benefits both mentally and physically. So when that alarm goes off and you are faced with doubt or that little voice in your head that whispers “hit the snooze button”,

remind yourself of your goal and why you are doing this in the first place.
